No sooner was I (like everyone else) lamenting the demise of Drowned In Sound and what that signified for music media than it was announced that Sounds is back. Bands reuniting for a comeback is nothing new, but magazines that folded 28 years ago doing so is rather more surprising.
It's unclear quite why it's back now, what links it has to the original publication and what its chances of long-term survival are - but it promises to be widely available (including in branches of Fopp, HMV and Rough Trade) on a quarterly basis and the cover of the first issue boasts Ian Tilton's famous image of a tired and emotional Kurt Cobain, a nod to the fact that the Nirvana frontman was regularly photographed wearing a Sounds T-shirt.
