Sex education from the age of four? You can just picture the outrage on the front page of the Daily Mail if our government were ever to follow suit: mutterings about those damn dirty Europeans and their liberal ideas corrupting our kids. Except that in the Netherlands, it's more like sexuality education, focusing on respect and understanding: "It’s about having open, honest conversations about love and relationships." And there's firm evidence that this mature, sensible, sensitive approach works far more effectively than the alternative, as exemplified by the US. Clearly there's a lesson to be learned - but, with the Tories in power, it's unlikely to be one that's heeded any time soon.
