Dragon's den

Uninspired journalism it may have been (hang on, it's St David's Day, let's round up a random assortment of Welshers and ask them to spout off briefly about Cardiff), but this Guardian article did at least give props to some of the jewels in the city's crown.

No surprise to find Huw Stephens kicking off with a reference to Spillers, but good to see Chapter Arts Centre, Gwdihw and Clwb Ifor Bach also getting well-deserved mentions.

Stephens' fellow contributor Angela Gray is spot on in enthusing about the arcades, but I'd take Matthew Rhys' comments about the Mochyn Du with a pinch of salt - a fine place it might be for a drink (the Tomos Watkins ales rarely disappoint), but the food is almost invariably poor. Strangely, this is at least the second time that the pub's gruesome grub has benefited from endorsement in the paper. On commission, are we?
