My beloved Cookie Monster

I'll confess to having lost touch with Eels somewhat over the years, despite a potent reminder at Green Man in 2019 of their enduring quality and appeal. So it's a pleasure to report that seizing the opportunity to review new record Cookie Happened has very much put us back into contact.

Warm, witty and wise, the album cements E's status as a consummate songwriter and wordsmith. Its message - that we all have regrets and we're all "fumbling around in the dark", as 'Lost And Barking' has it, and that we should learn to be kinder to ourselves, as well as each other - is honest and consolatory.

Buzz review here.
