Maybe I should bemoan "a media landscape that looks increasingly barren and impoverished" more often. No sooner have I lamented the demise of The Skinny than Drowned In Sound and Music Venue Trust have announced a new music magazine, Shownotes.
The ambitious collaborative venture is helmed by an experienced editor in Hannah Ewens and promises to feature the work of "some of the best music journalists in the world". Music Venue Trust are providing the financial backing, and as a result the focus will understandably be on grassroots venues and artists. In these difficult times, anything that draws attention to the thrills and challenges at that level is very welcome indeed.
What's more, Shownotes will be available for free. Here's hoping (assuming?) that at least one of the 500 selected host venues is in Cardiff.
