In the 1980s, Butthole Surfers effected a weird revolution - and went on to undergo a weird revolution themselves. When they leapt into the major-label mincing machine, it was never likely to end well - and sure enough the perceived failure to deliver a sufficiently commercial follow-up to Electriclarryland led to Capitol dropping them. That follow-up was subsequently released (as Weird Revolution) in 2001, but After The Astronaut is only now being put out in a form approved by the band. Buzz review here.
A friend recently ventured that they're more entertaining to read about than listen to, and I wouldn't disagree. Here are Daniel Dylan Wray's Guardian profile and an extract from JR Moores' Electric Wizards to prove the point.
