Family holiday had already ruled out seeing Flaming Lips when they come to Cardiff in July - but if it hadn't, this interview with Steven Drozd might well have swayed me into not going.
It's clear that the maverick multi-instrumentalist remains bewildered at having been forced out of a band he'd been an integral part of for more than three decades - and that the whole situation was handled badly. The reality is that, while Flaming Lips have remained a marvellously entertaining live act, over recent years they've increasingly become a one-man outfit, and this isn't the only incident to suggest that Wayne Coyne can be a thoughtless shitty egotist.
As a huge fan of the band's output, Stereogum's Zach Schonfeld has admitted to being uncomfortable with exposing the situation, but Drozd at very least deserved the right to tell his side of the story.
Plus the article alerted me to the fact that Drozd has covered the wonderful 'New Years', which I thought was a Codeine original (on Frigid Stars LP) but was actually written by Seam.
