"Stupid music made by very clever people"

That's how Tim Cedar describes his band Part Chimp, and I'm not inclined to disagree. Neither is guitarist Iain Hinchcliffe, who - in conversation with the Quietus' Stevie Chick - conceded that the pair's habit of tuning every string to B is "stupid, and brilliant. Which is a lot of what the Chimp is about."

As a two-time survivor of the Chimp live experience, I can confirm that they're also about blunt force and brain-squishing volume. If you want a boiled-down beginner's guide, then it'd be "Make sure you pack your earplugs" - but if you want something a bit more substantial that distils the essence of what they're all about and offers a judicious selection of recommendations, then you can't go wrong with Chick's piece.
