Close encounter

For someone who recently opened up for Stevie Nicks in a US enormodome, performing for a modest audience downstairs at Clwb might have been a somewhat humbling and dispiriting comedown. But, in truth, the intimate environment on a humid evening proved perfectly suited to the roiling passion and heartbreak of Nicole Atkins' songs - as well as those recently co-written with drummer and friend Jim Sclavunos.
