As might have been expected, when the Quietus sat a pair of postmen - Hey Colossus bassist and founder of the Wrong Speed Records label Joe Thompson and author/photographer Kevin Boniface - down for a chat with former postie Sean Kitching, they talked about the current strike action, how the job has affected/benefitted their creative pursuits, and the perennial curiosity to discover what's in the vinyl-shaped parcels.
Perhaps less anticipated was the way that Thompson and Boniface underlined posties' role in providing a vital welfare service, especially to elderly and isolated people. Clearly, postal workers' rounds are about much more than merely delivering letters.
