One of the things that struck me about Blackpool the first time I visited, on what was a pleasant, sunny late summer's day, was the relative lack of people on the actual beach. The pictures of seaside resorts taken by the likes of Martin Parr and Jon Pountney reflect their appreciation of the fact that the appeal lies as much in the promenade entertainment as it does in sun, sea and sand.
George Wilson went a step further by (it seems) never setting foot outside an amusement arcade. After graduating from David Hurn's legendary photography course in Newport, he took a job as a bingo caller in Herne Bay in Kent, and his subject matter simply presented itself.
