Fake news
A fixation with an idle, vacuous life of wealth; a complete disregard for others in the single-minded and fraudulent pursuit of that goal; the importance placed on keeping up appearances and cultivating a persona through fashion and social media, even when that persona is on trial. The case of Anna Sorokin might be extreme, but, at the risk of coming across as a tedious moralist, it says a lot about the bewilderingly superficial, celebrity- and image-obsessed, late-capitalist times in which we live.
