A right Royal mess

Some band reunions you suspect will have a short lifespan. If the tensions or personal differences that caused them to break up in the first place haven't been properly resolved, then it's only a matter of time before they do so again. Take At The Drive-In, for instance: fun while it lasted, giving us another really good album and another opportunity to hear the incendiary material from Relationship Of Command live, but probably always destined to end abruptly with another indefinite hiatus.

Still, it wasn't as much of a cast-iron guaranteed car crash as Royal Trux reforming. Combustible couple Neil Hagerty and Jennifer Herrema clearly haven't changed (their life's mission still seems to be to steal the "Toxic Twins" title from Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry) and neither has their fractious relationship, with Hagerty even declaring he's quit the band in mid-interview with the Guardian's Alexis Petridis. Herrema was having none of it, though - more concerned to tell Petridis that 15 per cent of her blood is "non-terrestrial"...
