Everybody needs good neighbours

While the photos taken by Don (real name: Gordon Charles Montgomery) of psychiatric patients between the 1970s and the 1990s in Prestwich in Manchester are remarkable in themselves, I'm rather more intrigued by the revelation that during the 1980s he used to "drop acid and get shitfaced" with fellow Prestwich residents Mark E Smith, John Cooper Clarke and Nico and has somehow survived to tell the tale. It's a very different place nowadays - one with an M&S Food shop, for a start...
