"It is an unpolished turd of a book, the stale excrement of Morrissey’s imagination."
The Guardian's Michael Hann on Morrissey's debut novel List Of The Lost - and he's just getting started. Hann earned my respect for his comprehensive demolition of Britpop last year, and this just reaffirms it.
Don't feel sorry for the victim of Hann's scorn, though. Morrissey's gargantuan ego will mean that this will all be either water off a duck's back or a new source of lingering grievance at being misunderstood.
It's also not like he can't dish it out himself - in a letter to Melody Maker back in 1976, for instance, he branded the Ramones "the latest bumptious band of degenerate no-talents", continuing: "Musically, they do not deal subtlety or variation of any kind, their rule is to be as incompetent as possible."
