Given that even Nobel laureates like Sir Tim Hunt can say such things, is it any wonder that STM subjects continue to attract far fewer women than men? What's worse is the fact that Hunt has only actually apologised for causing offence - he's claimed to stand by his views, saying he "meant to be honest". It would be helpful if he could get his story straight - this hardly squares with his contention that his remarks were "intended as a light-hearted, ironic comment". Needless to say, no one has found them remotely funny.
