Not-so-superstore
Regular readers will know that photo sets of abandoned buildings are a particular fascination of mine - but not many of those featured on this site are of buildings that were constructed but never even occupied. Following Tesco's financial problems, several new stores have been mothballed and other developments abandoned, wreaking havoc upon communities and blighting the landscape with empty, architecturally worthless shells. The latter, like the largely abandoned out-of-town retail and leisure sites in places like Pilsworth in Lancashire and parts of Cardiff, are the consumerist follies of the twenty-first century.
