I suppose it's inevitable, but it's still a little disappointing to hear Kim Gordon openly revelling in the musical freedom afforded to her in the wake of Sonic Youth's demise. Speaking to Paste, she revealed that collaborating with Bill Nace in Body/Head led her to think "'Oh great, now I can just play exactly what I want to play'". The duo's debut album Coming Apart may be almost entirely improvised, but the pair agree that her vocals are "the Lebowski Rug" tying everything together - props to Nace for having good taste in films.
Gordon has also recently been talking to She Shreds, describing herself as feeling like "more of a visual artist" than a musician and claiming that over the course of her musical career she's arguably been "honing the fine art of not having a technique". Very true - though her assertion that Karen O is "making interesting music" is rather more questionable...

Why on earth is that a little disappointing?
Because I'd have hoped she felt comfortable and relatively free within Sonic Youth - but it seems not. (Admittedly I could have phrased the post better...)
