What a pleasant surprise to discover, via Piccadilly Records' ever-excellent weekly mailout, that my old Nottingham muckers Six By Seven are back with a new album. And Six By Seven proper, too - not Chris Olley's shortlived drummerless side-project-of-sorts The Death Of Six By Seven, but a full band again, now featuring former Placebo drummer Steve Hewitt.
From what I've read, Love And Peace And Sympathy sounds like classic Six by Seven - droney, shoegazy, laden with world-weary and regretful lyrics. One for the shopping list, for sure, alongside the forthcoming records from Fuck Buttons and No Age. If only I could have been at Glastonbury, where their Thursday set consisted of the album in its entirety, from start to finish. Olley never was lacking in confidence...
