Nancy Reagan's death reminded me of a classic anecdote about Miles Davis. When Davis was invited to dinner at the White House in 1987, a bemused First Lady asked him what he'd done to deserve the invitation. His reply? "Well, I've changed the course of music five or six times. What have you done except fuck the president?"
