Anyone can play guitar be the "new Radiohead"

Time was, post Kid A, that practically every band was branded with the epithet "the new Radiohead". For some it was a blessing; for others it was a curse; and for many, I'd argue, it was just wildly inaccurate. Pitchfork's Ian Cohen has used the tracklisting of The Bends as a springboard for discussing the "new Radiohead"'s various different incarnations. I'd forgotten all about JJ72, to be honest, though I have their debut album somewhere. If only I could have forgotten all about the likes of Turin Brakes and South too, though...
