Feel good hits of the 16th March

An unusually long time since the last one of these...

1. 'When I'm With You' - Best Coast
2. 'You're Lionel Richie' - Mogwai
3. 'Glass' - Bat For Lashes
4. 'Iron Deer Dream' - Fixers
5. 'Eyesore' - Women
6. 'Rend It' - Fugazi
7. 'High Horse' - The Jim Jones Revue
8. 'Summer Of All Dead Souls' - And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead
9. '4am' - Matt Winkworth & The Winkworthers Originals
10. 'Skin Parade' - Guided By Voices

Notes:

1. It wouldn't be overstating the mark to say I'm currently obsessed with Crazy For You. So simple, yet so devastatingly effective. Everything else is getting very little stereo time at all.

2. A real beast from the new album. Review of their splendid show at the Regal recently to follow.

3. Don't suppose you happen to have my copy of Two Suns, do you? It's gone AWOL and 'Glass' (as heard in Oxford indie pub of legend the Star last night) is making me want it back, and sharpish.

4. Breakthrough single for Oxford band du jour Fixers? Looks likely. Animal Collective's pawprints are all over this, though there are also elements of MGMT and Flaming Lips.

5. Public Strain saves the best for last.

8. I've just bought Tao Of The Dead on the strength of a few reviews and a bit of a whim. I loved their self-titled debut and Madonna, more so than the more widely revered Source Tags & Codes. Worlds Apart, though, began strongly but ultimately left me a bit baffled and disappointed and I hadn't bothered with either So Divided or The Century Of Self - so time will tell how this characteristically ambitious new LP stands up.
