Ignorance isn't bliss

I came across a reference to a marvellous nineteenth-century publication today: The Monthly Supplement of the Penny Magazine of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge. Not only do I want to read it, I want to become a fully paid-up member of the Society itself. Sadly it's no longer operational, but good to know that Channel 5 and BBC3 are continuing its valuable public work.
