Feel good hits of the 22nd January

1. 'Screaming Skull' - Sonic Youth
2. 'Mercenary' - Sparrow And The Workshop
3. 'Infinity Guitars' - Sleigh Bells
4. 'Rano Pano' - Mogwai
5. 'Appetites' - Les Savy Fav
6. 'When My Baby Comes' - Grinderman
7. 'Mirador' - Efterklang
8. 'Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa' - Vampire Weekend
9. 'Don't Cry' - Deerhunter
10. 'Afraid Of Everyone' - The National

Notes:

1. The consequence of working my way through Sonic Youth's back catalogue towards the present alongside David Browne's marvellous history of the band.

2. One of the album tracks I'd appreciated least thus far, slowly starting to come to the fore.

3. Thanks to Del for finally getting me to listen to Sleigh Bells. I genuinely love this. Regretting passing up the opportunity to see them with MIA in the autumn even more now...

4. Heavy guitar, then another heavy guitar on top, then another heavy guitar on top of that. Oh yes, 'Rano Pano' is a heavy beast. Eardrums already quaking in anticipation ahead of the Glaswegians' visit to the Regal next month.

5. Root For Ruin still doesn't quite match up to Let's Stay Friends, but it's certainly not without its merits.

6. Note to self: really ought to revisit their debut.
