A prickly subject

No doubt over the news headline of the day: "NZ man 'used hedgehog as weapon'".

When I asked my Kiwi colleague if this was common practice in his home country, he shook his head despairingly and directed me to another recent story about human-animal interaction in New Zealand with an equally arresting headline: "Man said 'wombat rape' led to accent change"...

If I didn't know 'The Day Today' inside out, I'd assume both stories were taken from there. What is it they say about truth being stranger than fiction?

not funny really, but whilst on odd antipodean news stories, did you catch the one about the 60 year old and his 39 year old daughter who are in a relationship and have a child and appeared on tv asking for understanding? Their first child died of a congenital heart defect. It's like a particularly horrific episode of Kilroy.

I did see that, and you're right - not funny, just freakish...
