We're not Worthy! We are Worthy!

Dear Michael

Thank you very much for the invitation to your little summer shindig at Worthy Farm. I was delighted to part with £160 to guarantee my attendance, as were several others of my acquaintance, and all of us are grateful that the whole process proved rather smoother and less troublesome and frustrating this year.

Now you'll have to excuse me while I get making sacrifices to the Weather Gods in the hope that that might ensure there's not a drop of rain at any point over the course of the whole weekend. I'd say it couldn't possibly be as unrelentingly wet as last year, but I've heard of tempting fate...

See you and the cows in June.

Yours sincerely

Ben

PS Please, please, please could you boot The Verve off the bill and book Sonic Youth instead? Thanks.

I'm sure there's a band more worthy of being pitched off the bill than the Verve? A Northern Soul was actually quite good!

So wait, 160 pounds for one person or what? I'm happy you got in, but jesus that's expensive.

Don't like The Verve, I'm afraid - but you're right, there probably is someone else on the bill I'd rather ditch. That said, the bill isn't actually officially announced until early June, and only the headliners (Kings Of Leon, Jay-Z and The Verve) have been revealed so far.

Yep, £160 each - it IS steep, but unfortunately that's pretty much the going rate.

Are you going to Hillside again this year?

holy crap, 160 (quid) can't find a pound key on my canadian keyboard.

honestly, I remember when we all bought tickets not knowing for sure ANYONE who was playing. I don't really get all the fuss about the bill, either. Wasn't the festival criticised rather a lot in recent years for being a bit indentikit indie? Jay Z certainly isn't that (although I'm offering no kind of odds at all on his friend and local boy Chris Martin turning up onstage with him).

I'm sure there'll be plenty to do, even if that's just hang around the cider bus wondering what to have for a second lunch.

See you there boys!

and £160 is worth it just to see Billy Bragg on sunday night in the leftfield, no?

Not a Verve fan myself either. But I guess Sonic Youth could headline the Other stage on the Sunday night. I sincerely hope that somebody good does...

See you there! Hopefully in blazing sunshine.

ST: Don't get me wrong - unlike for any other festival, I'd still buy a ticket for Glasto regardless of the bill. There's bound to be good stuff on somewhere, anyway. I think CSS are playing again, for a start. Nick Cave to headline the Other Stage? That would be good...

Del: Blazing sunshine at Glasto wouldn't be a first for me, but a completely dry festival would! 2002's the closest I've ever got to that - the last couple of acts on the Sunday were enjoyed in the drizzle. In 2005 it only actually rained for about eight hours over the whole weekend, but it was so heavy and the ground was baked so hard that it had devastating consequences.

I seem to remember 2003 was completely dry, which was wonderful. But yeah, I was there for the 2005 mudbath. Didn't have wellies, either. I shan't be making that mistake again...

This is quite sad to admit, but I checked back in the SWSL write-up for the 2003 festival and it did indeed piss it down at least once, around lunchtime on the Friday. I took shelter watching some godawful jazz funk band in a tent.

Last year was the first year I've ever taken wellies, and I'm so glad I did - my seasoned festival boots finally bit the dust, while the wellies, which cost the princely sum of £1.50, survived. Need to dig them out again - you know, just in case...

I hold my hands up to your superior knowledge! My memory of that year is a bit sketchy. At one point I fell asleep in front of a speaker in the dance tent. Still, I was beaten by my mate's sister, who managed to get so wasted that she slept through Radiohead, the one act she actually wanted to see.

At the end of the 2005 festival, i left my ruined Cat boots in the coach queue. And swore to never go to a festival again without wellingtons. Other than that, I'm rather tempted to go to Reading in a suit, a la Blur circa 1992...

ah yes, 2003, that must be the year when it rained on me during the Inspiral Carpets, which ought to teach me. It was gorgeous all weekend after that (prolonged) shower though.

Isn't that a song, ST? "Why does it always rain on me? / Is it because I watched Inspiral Carpets in 2003"...
