Victory - at a price
At last! At long last! I've won a pub quiz! Or, rather, I've been part of a pub-quiz-winning team.
Even now, still basking in the glory and admiring the spoils of victory, the bottles of wine I froze my fingers off carrying back from the other side of the city centre, I can appreciate that the win came at a price - our New Zealand team-mate is suffering the shame of not knowing his country's first Prime Minister was Henry Sewell, and we're all ashamed at naming Hear'Say's first single as 'Pure And Simple'.
And, what's more, winning still doesn't preclude that nagging annoyance at getting things wrong - I could have SWORN that Fray Bentos was in Argentina, not Uruguay...
