Every year the Bookseller awards the Diagram Prize to the book with the oddest title. The shortlist for 2008 is decent, and you can currently vote for your favourite on the Bookseller website. My money is on Jasper McCutcheon's 'I Was Tortured By The Pygmy Love Queen' being narrowly edged out by Dee Gordon's 'People Who Mattered In Southend And Beyond: From King Canute To Dr Feelgood'. The latter begs a lot of questions: What do you have to do to "matter" in Southend? Just how far is "beyond" - Margate? Is this the one and only time that a comparison has been drawn between King Canute and Dr Feelgood?
Previous winners of the prize include 'Greek Rural Postmen And Their Cancellation Numbers' (1996), 'The Big Book Of Lesbian Horse Stories' (2003) and, perhaps best of all, 'Living With Crazy Buttocks' (2002).
