Tim Lott on the Orange Prize for female novelists. Predictably his (overstated) comments have provoked an indignant response from certain quarters.

So is it a welcome and necessary instance of positive discrimination, or just plain "ridiculous"? That was the subject of this Guardian article on the occasion of the prize's tenth anniversary two years ago, and the debate's still evidently raging.
