Quotes of the day
"I'm a member of Appledore library".
The answer 15-year-old Gemma Bray, from Appledore in Devon, gave to an orphanage guard in New York when asked what street gangs she belonged to. Gemma and her sister were taken in by the orphanage when their mother was hospitalised with pneumonia while they were on holiday.
"Kerviel's Facebook page had 11 friends before the scandal broke - but this was down to four last night".
A twist of Schadenfreude at the end of the Metro's report on Friday on the man at the centre of the £3.6bn Societe Generale fraud case. Expect to see Kerviel's book 'How To Lose Friends And Influence The World Stock Markets' on shelves sometime soon.
"Police in the town of Paw Paw, Michigan, said Mr Carpenter had told them 'it was quite a ride', but complained only that he had spilled his soda".
How refreshing to hear a "mustn't grumble" attitude from an American - in this case, one Ben Carpenter, whose wheelchair handles got caught in the radiator grille of an articulated lorry, unbeknown to its driver, resulting in a thrilling 50mph ride for the unwitting passenger.
