Feel good hits of the 30th January
1. 'No Fun' - The Stooges
2. 'For Agent 13' - The Besnard Lakes
3. 'Comes & Goes' - Les Savy Fav
4. 'Young Folks' - Peter, Bjorn & John
5. 'The Returning' (demo) - Lily Green
6. 'Videotape' - Radiohead
7. 'I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You' - Black Kids
8. 'Pretend We're Dead' - L7
9. 'King Of The Road' - Fu Manchu
10. 'Neither Created Nor Destroyed' - Trumans Water
So yes, I've been tormenting myself by getting a flavour of what I'm missing out on Friday night - namely, spazz-rock fuck-ups and Sonic Youth favourites Trumans Water, who are playing with Truckers Of Husk at Clwb in Cardiff - as well as what I missed out on last night (because their Jericho Tavern gig was sold out) - Black Kids, who come across like Los Campesinos! on the extremely happy pills and fronted by Robert Smith. (All of which has spurred me into getting tickets for a couple of other fast-approaching gigs, Black Francis/Art Brut next Thursday and Glasvegas the following week.)
'No Fun', incidentally, was the song playing when I staggered up the stairs and out of Snobs in Birmingham in the early hours of last Sunday morning. Fun had very definitely been had.
One last thing: watch the 'For Agent 13' video. Simple, but very effective indeed.
