Occasionally, hearing a new album proves to be a revelatory experience. It's not often that that album is by a band you thought you already knew. Suffice to say that Deafheaven's Infinite Granite comes very highly recommended.
Here's the band's vocalist George Clarke in conversation with Pitchfork's Sam Sodomsky, talking about the record's bold new direction, his own switch from screaming to singing and Deafheaven's role as a gateway drug for extreme/underground metal. His comments about M83's Junk being an inspiration - "There's so much cool production, and it's so bombastic and maximalist. Listening to that record, I was like 'Everything needs to be huge'" - certainly ring true with respect to Infinite Granite.
