School of rock

If you're going to learn how to play guitar, then who better to learn from than someone who could school the best? Yes, that's right: J Mascis is going to turn teacher at Camp Fuzz, a rock camp hosted by Dinosaur Jr. I can't imagine him being the most dynamic educator, delivering workshop presentations in that trademark mumble through a curtain of hair, but the man certainly knows his onions.

For the event, which will take place over a summer weekend in upstate New York, Mascis and his bandmates Lou Barlow and Murph are set to be joined by special guest "counsellors". Might one be Mary Timony, perhaps? She's already a guitar teacher (and a damn good one if one of her tutees, Snail Mail's Lindsey Jordan, is anything to go by), plus the second Ex Hex album It's Real is ample proof that she knows how to shred - as is the first, for that matter.

Anyway, the news has prompted me to watch the video for Yo La Tengo's 'Sugarcube' for the umpteenth time - not that I need much of an excuse, though.
