I've already written in praise of Graeme Oxby's book The Kings Of England, but don't just take my word for it - take a look at some of its best images, courtesy of this Vice article. That first picture, of the five different waxwork-like Elvises backstage at a competition, is probably my favourite in the whole book.
Oxby also has some interesting theories why the obsession with Elvis is so widespread, venturing (for instance) that he allows working-class heterosexual men the opportunity "to show off, to be a peacock" and "express their creativity" and thereby explore their masculinity "in a way that's accepted in their culture".
