How to respond to that? And, in particular, this on my own doorstep, (and that woman celebrating her triumph by performing a song on local radio)? With a shake of the head and a weary sigh of resignation - much the same as Stephen Fry, I imagine.
On the one hand, the eagerness with which the Lib Dems (whose staggeringly poor showing continues to astound me) appear to be willing to jump into bed with the Tories makes me feel rather dirty. But, alternatively, at least they now have some real clout and political sway (if only by virtue of the failings of others rather than by virtue of their own successes), and they should at least be able to blunt the edge of the knife the Tories are brandishing in the direction of taxation system and public services.
