Quote of the day

"The decision I took - and frankly would take again - was if there was any possibility that he could develop weapons of mass destruction we should stop him."

Now forgive me if I'm wrong, Tony, but I was under the impression that we went to war on the pretext that Saddam Hussein already HAD weapons of mass destruction.

You can call me naive if you like, but the government’s handling of Iraq, the dossier, the shifting justifications, the uneasy manipulation of facts to suit a purpose etc, was when I lost most of my faith in British politics. The patronising contempt shown for the public at the time – and even now is remarkable in its transparency.

What I couldn’t fathom at the time and still can’t is how Blair and Bush could be so blatant about it all. In a lot of ways it’s a shame that it took an American politician to give me little bit of hope back, but in the UK, I’m not sure I give a shit for any of them.
