When it comes to musicians and fans, the former are (inevitably) more often in the spotlight, literally and metaphorically, than the latter. And yet fandom - its forms, its eccentricities, its excesses - can be fascinating, and books such as Molly Tie's Rebel Grrrls productively shift the focus from those on stage to those in the audience.
The Holy Pop! exhibition currently on display at Somerset House follows in this trend, featuring fans' homemade shrines to dead pop stars. The Quietus' Jak Hutchcraft spoke to its curator Tory Turk about collections, collective memory and hero worship, and over the course of their conversation came to the realisation that "this exhibition is in fact a shrine itself. It's a temple dedicated to the undying power of pop music, the stories and storytellers that guide us through life, and the connection so many of us feel to the art and the artists we love."
