Cache in the attic
Many a loft is home to boxes of photos gathering dust - but not many such boxes contain photos of the calibre of those taken by the late John Turner. It's to be hoped - as his daughter and son-in-law Liz and Martin Carroll do - that the images might one day be exhibited. In the meantime, though, this selection chosen by the BBC's Picture Editor Phil Coomes gives a flavour of the work of an amateur who clearly had a keen eye for capturing the quotidian and occasionally surreal reality of London in the middle decades of the twentieth century.
