Lubrication for the mind

It probably won't come as any surprise to learn that Mark E Smith's six-day guide to writing revolves around spending a lot of time in the pub. Persevere, and by Day Five it should all click into place: "This is where true penmanship stamina comes into its own as by now, guilt, drunkenness, the people in the pub and the fact you’re one of them should combine to enable you to write out of sheer vexation".

The guide was produced back in 1983 - presumably an updated version would mention hanging around the £1 bakery in Prestwich, which I gather is one of his regular hobbies these days.
