Aces of basses

Melvins have done four drummers, so I guess it only makes sense that their new album should feature no fewer than six bassists - sadly not all at the same time, though. Those involved include Trevor Dunn (Mr Bungle, Fantomas), Steve McDonald (Redd Kross), J D Pinkus (Butthole Surfers) and Jared Warren (Big Business), though the highest-profile contributor is undoubtedly Krist Novoselic, whose former Nirvana colleague Dave Grohl was also supposed to contribute but who - to Buzz Osborne's obvious irritation - failed to turn up at the appointed time. It's not the first time Osborne has spoken critically of the man widely regarded as the nicest man in rock.
