Not-so-guilty pleasure

I never had former Helmet and current Battles drummer John Stanier down as a Rush fan, let alone one so enthusiastic as to choose two different albums by Geddy Lee and company as part of his Favourite Records feature for the Quietus. Still, that's not his most embarrassing personal predilection, given that he's also a self-confessed Newcastle fan...

Stanier's selection also features records by hardcore/punk types Husker Du, Die Kreuzen and Corrosion Of Conformity and rap albums by Mobb Deep and Notorious BIG, as well as "electric jazz/rock" and a CD of baroque music bought from "an avant-garde classical record shop" in Lisbon - the latter included because "this is the Quietus. There has to be ONE really over-the-top pretentious record in here"...
