According to artist Sarah DeRemer, it might well be "a study in colour, tone and negative space" - but this series of pictures is also a pretty cool experiment in depicting different animals in the form of types of fruit and veg. Stan has a cartoon lift-the-flap book along similar lines, in which items of food turn out to be various creatures large and small. It's Japanese, naturally.
