Last week I received a letter from Co-operative bank chief executive Niall Booker which began: "I wanted to write to you personally to thank you for standing by us during some of the most difficult times in our history" - an implicit admission that, unsurprisingly, the scandal over Paul Flowers' conduct and last summer's bail-out have cost them customers.
The bank's new slogan appears designed to suggest that loyalty is mutual: "Here for you for life." In the circumstances, they could hardly have retained the old slogan, "Good with money"...
