Going underground

How do you possibly improve a stunning restored former music hall (now cafe bar), a sure-fire inclusion in a Nottingham Reasons To Be Cheerful series for this blog (were the series to have existed back when I lived in the East Midlands)? By bringing the two underground floors back into use, and expanding into the caves. As luck would have it, we're off to Nottingham tonight, back on Sunday, so with any luck we'll get the chance to pop into the Malt Cross when we're there.

We won't, however, be going to Rock City - our rowdy nights clubbing there are, I think, a thing of the past. Here's a profile of the venue, written for the Guardian by a friend who's frequented it more than most, Mike Troubled Diva.
