To claim that a previously untouchable artist has gone into seemingly irreversible decline is to open yourself up to accusations of musical snobbery - the old "You only like their early albums, before they were mainstream" schtick. So it would be helpful to have a clear yardstick by which that decline could be measured or judged. Kiernan Maletsky of Village Voice appears to have found a good one for Lil Wayne: his waning creative powers with regard to similes.
