Valentine's Day: a day for treasuring that special someone and celebrating the joyous, enduring and nurturing nature of love. Or, alternatively, for passing sharp, mocking comment on those around you in complete anonymity, if you fancy resurrecting the nineteenth- and early twentieth-century tradition of "vinegar valentines". Any other time of the year, it's verging on hate mail - but today it's perfectly legitimate...
