Charlie Brooker, I salute you for once again eloquently expressing my own feelings - this time on the Olympics. And, yes, believe it or not but his cynical mask has slipped, in spite of himself. OK, so my own larger misgivings about the expense and rampant commercialism of the whole thing remain intact - but the sheer effort and endeavour of the competitors in general and the events of Saturday evening in particular have won me around.
Still, in a way it's reassuring to know that you can count on Morrissey not to succumb, preferring to maintain a resolutely grumpy and oppositional attitude. He's lambasted the "blustering jingoism" that's swept the nation, and alluded to Nazi Germany by way of comparison. As ever with Morrissey, though, it's not clear whether this is genuinely his opinion, or just faux-controversial posturing, going against the grain for the sake of it (well, that and self-promotion...).

Billy Bragg put a good response to Mozzer up on Facebook (can't supply a link at work though).
Also, for all the issues with commercialisation, I liked the fact that in the venues you couldn't really tell who the sponsors were in the main rooms, all the branding is just 'London 2012' and nothing else.
