First weekend in Brum for ages, and it was a corker. It was impressive to see how much is going on - from the permanent (the Cube and the striking new library) to the temporary (the Jamaican festival in and around Victoria Square - bet that was mental for Usain Bolt's 100m win).
I was introduced to some new delights - the Warehouse Cafe in Digbeth (the Friends of the Earth's veggie restaurant) and the Red Lion in Hockley - but was also grateful to note first-hand that some things never change: the quality of the food at Cafe Soya, the quality of the drink at the Anchor, the grimy lairyness of the Actress & Bishop...
