Feel good hits of the 24th August
1. 'Outer Realms' - The Cave Singers
2. 'Pact To Stay Cold' - Sparrow And The Workshop
3. 'Flying Into The Sun' - Crystal Stilts
4. 'Three Days' - Jane's Addiction
5. 'Rhinocerous' - Smashing Pumpkins
6. 'Paper Cuts' - Nirvana
7. 'Wuthering Heights' - Kate Bush
8. 'Pay To Cum' - Bad Brains
9. 'Twilight Galaxy' - Metric
10. 'Lorelai' - Fleet Foxes
Notes:
1. A prime reason I'm jealous of those who went to Green Man last weekend. No Witch is a bit trad-folk in places for my tastes, but also has some satisfactorily grubby rock plus this slice of trippy Eastern/desert blues.
2. I'm yet to make my mind up about Spitting Daggers. Does the beefier sound do them a disservice? Does it bear the hallmarks of having been rushed out? Do I find single 'Snakes In The Grass' more irritating than enjoyable? Either way, 'Pact To Stay Cold' is a striking opening gambit, and also the song they chose to open with on their last visit to Oxford.
4., 5. and 6. All part of a musical trip down Memory Lane to accompany a game of poker the other week. Dale Crover: what a guy.
7. The Whole Story is, um, patchy.
8. Thank you Ian Mackaye for finally prodding me into looking into Bad Brains. The sheer speed of this, their debut single, is staggering.
