Quote of the day

"Today is the end of an epoch, the end of an era."

What could that pompous buffoon Boris Johnson be on about now? The closure of thelondonpaper, of course - as commented in that esteemed organ's final issue.

Yes, that's right, thelondonpaper, News International's vacuous contribution to the capital's litter problem. Forgive me for saying so, Boris, but "epoch" is rather an extravagant way of describing a period of a mere three years.

So, how do you think the rag chose to mark its passing? By printing flashbacks to some of the most significant London-based stories of its existence? No. By printing across pages 2 and 3 pictures of its journalists cosying up to an assortment of celebrities...

Unlike Boris - and Tessa Jowell, I should add - I'm not sorry to see it go.
